ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN MARINE ENGINEERING

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN MARINE ENGINEERING

There are about 22,000 engineering professionals and semi-professional currently employed in marine and other related industries in Malaysia. This figure allows for a pessimistic growth of 8% to 10% inclusive of vacancies created due to workforce retirement and migration to other industries in every five years. A total of more than 2,000 professionals and semi-professionals are to be produced to meet the demand of the marine and the related industries in Malaysia. However the actual demand in the five year period is expected to be much more taking into account those intending to become individual technical entrepreneurs seeking employment overseas.

The objectives of the programme are:

  • To produce semi-professionals, competent in the field of marine engineering technology to meet the current and future demand of the marine and its related industries in Malaysia as well as abroad.
  • To train and develop technical entrepreneurs in the various sectors of the marine industry.
  • DIPLOMA OF ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN MARINE ENGINEERING
ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN ELECTRICAL AND ELECTRONIC (MARINE)

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN ELECTRICAL & ELECTRONIC (MARINE)

This programme is expected to be offered to at least the SPM holder with the opportunities to be trained to become semi-professional in marine industry, to establish their own self and the industry, hence to the economic growth as a whole.

Apart from engineering technology subjects, the programme also offer skills in technopreneur, design innovation and project. This is to ensure that they are good technical workers with high skills, creative, innovative and be able to manage, operate and maintain any systems related to marine industries.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN SHIP DESIGN

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN SHIP DESIGN

Rapid development of today’s marine industry has started since a few decades ago. The huge scope of this industry includes various types of vessels, offshore platform design, construction, operation and maintenance until the production of spare parts and shipping equipments. There is more than 22,000 professional and semi-professional bodies work in our local marine industry and other related bodies. It is expected that there will be an increment in the human resource’s needs in between 8% to 10% every year.

By looking at the statistics and the needs of human resources in the industry, UniKL MIMET aspire to offer courses that based on Marine Engineering Technology to produce more semi-professional bodies that are able to contribute to the development and achievement of the industry and to the country generally.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN SHIP CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE

  1. Understand the major principles of ship and boat construction.
  2. Work effectively in shipbuilding, engineering planning and scheduling activities.
  3. Understand the rationale for combining a modern ship design with an efficient and effectiveness shipyard/boatyard manufacturing system.
  4. Understand that construction is closely linked with efficient manufacturing processes.
  5. Be aware of links between the ship/boat build plan and yard layout.
  6. Have an opening knowledge of a method of work breakdown structure.
  7. Understand and apply standardized work practices.

INDUSTRIAL LOGISTICS

INDUSTRIAL LOGISTICS

Logistics management is one of the foundation blocks of any successful business. With the onslaught of globalization, logistics management has become more complex and face stiff challenges. It entails a wide variety of activities as global enterprizes need to integrate the flow of goods from the suppliers, through their facilities, on to their customers. Proper performance of logistics functions can thus contribute to both lower costs and enhanced customer service. Unless an organization can manage and coordinate the movement of materials, information and cash through its business, and those of partner organizations, it is unlikely to outperform its competitors. With Malaysia’s strategic development in the logistics sector, such as, business expansion in air cargo hub, container port, as well as in service industries like airlines, couriers and banks, the market demand for logistics professionals is tremendous.

Typical problems in this area will include supply chain design (materials handling, facility location, plant layout, integrated production systems, warehousing, pricing, service support), supply chain operations (inventory control, third-part logistics, transportation and freight operations, air cargo systems, routing, network optimization, distribution channels) and tactical issues (item tracking). Universiti Kuala Lumpur has risen to this challenge by offering programmes that prepare graduates with knowledge of the strategic and economic principles of the efficient flow of materials, information, capital and products through the whole distribution network.
