MEDICAL ASSISTANT
Diploma in Medical Assistant is an undergraduate programme that aims to provide students with the knowledge, skills and attitude to enable them to practice as a Medical Assistant or Assistant Medical Officer. The teaching-learning activity is geared into substantially describing and discovering how the different human system work, e.g. cardiovascular, respiratory etc., relating cellular and molecular to whole-body aspects of both normal and diseased states. Upon graduating the programme, the graduates would be able to understand, diagnose, treat simple ailment, caring and curing in wellness and disease.
This professional programme provides you with a wide carrier pathway into a medical profession in the Malaysian healthcare sector as an Assistant Medical Officer. You will be introduced to medical science subjects and clinical placement in government hospital and health clinic. MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY
Along with advancements in medical technology, this course is offered to fulfil the needs for skilled and trained biomedical technologist to assist in the operation, development and management of biomedical laboratories. Biomedical Laboratory Technologist plays a major role as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team. They are involved primarily in hospitals, clinics and physicians’ office laboratories, pharmaceutical companies, forensic, research and public health laboratories. There are expanding opportunities for biomedical lab technologists to assist in research and development, and as technical and sales representatives in the biomedical and healthcare industry.
MEDICAL SCIENCE TECHNOLOGY IN ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH SCIENCE
Along with advancements in environmental health technology, this course is offered to fulfil the needs for skilled and trained environmental technologist to assist in the operation, management and enforcement of environmental health. Environmental Health Science Technologist plays a major role as a member of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
They involve primarily in assisting environmental health officers to evaluate and control environmental hazards, maintaining a safe supply of food and drinking water, improving methods for treatment and disposal of waste and researching the environmental impact to overall human health. They also involved in assisting the enforcement of environmental health laws and regulations in order to maintain a safe and healthy environment to live in.
MEDICAL IMAGING (RADIOGRAPHY)
A Diagnostic Radiographer is defined as a professional from the Allied Health Science Group trained in the use of X-rays and other sophisicated diagnostic imaging systems, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerised tomography (CT), mammography, radionuclide imaging, angiography and digital radiography for the purpose of producing diognastic quality medical images to enable the Radiologist (a specialist doctor in Radiology) to diagnose diseases and abnormalities of the human body. The art and science of Diognostic Radiography requires the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the following specific areas ; anatomy and physiology; medical ethics; medical terminology; pathology; patient management; behavorial science; accurate patient positioning; the principal of X-ray exposures; quality assurance of medical imaging instruments; general physics; radiation physics and radiation protection; radiobiology; pattern recognition of normal and abnormal medical images; and photchemistry.
The Diagnostic Radiographer is an essential member of the healthcare community. Good teamwork with the other healthcare providers expedite medical treatment of patients, and thus fasten their recovery towards good health. The students will spend 3 years full time studying with clinical practice at several government and private hospitals. The training programme is committed to graduating students wit a holistic experience in the art and science of medical imaging. It is designed to produced graduates who are technicall proficient and knowledgeable practioners, who take pride in providing exemplary patient care.
NURSING
This course introduces the student to nursing as a professional discipline. It provides the student with knowledge and skills for an exciting career in a variety of nursing roles in various health care institutions. Students spend 3 years full time studying with practical experience in various disciplines at several government hospitals and health clinics in Perak. During this period they will be equipped with relevant exposure and experience for an exciting career in a variety of nursing roles and health care settings. Students in this programme are thaught at UniKL RCMP in Ipoh. Besides that they are also exposed to the clinical teaching and attachments in the Ipoh Hospital and in Teluk Intan Hospital. In addition, they are also attached to many clinics and health centres in the District of Hilir Perak.
UniKL RCMP students are also encourage to be involved in organised field work e.g. at the Orang Asli Settlement. With these structures and organised approaches in the teaching of the nursing students, they will be more prepared to offer health care services to the community. Upon successful completion of the programme, a Diploma will be awarded by the University which is recognized by the Nursing Board of Malaysia. This course of study has attained the official recognition and the academic qualification being conferred is in compliance with the standard and quality set by MQA.
PHARMACY
This course aims to provide the student with an appreciation of the role of a pharmacy assistant working in a community pharmacy environment. Futhermore, the course provides an introduction to knowledge and skills to provide a high quality clinical pharmacy service, as well as enabling students to develop skills in providing pharmaceutical care to serve the nation. Constant expansion of health care programmes and increasing need for quality pharmaceutical care ensure a continuing demand of well educated pharmacy assistants in the country.
The student will spend 3 years full time studying with practical experience at several government and private hospitals. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the health sector. A key element of the course is the hospital based practical activities (during health semester 4 & 5) which provides the opportunity for students to put theory into practice. Upon successful completion of the programme, a Diploma will be awarded by the University.
PHYSIOTHERAPY
Physiotherapists help people of all ages who have physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing. Physiotherapy techniques can improve the ability to use parts of the body that have been affected by disease or injury. For example, arthritis is a long-term condition that causes painful and stiff joints. Physiotherapy can help to keep the joints mobile (able to move) and strengthen the surrounding muscles. Physiotherapists may work in hospitals, private practices or with the social services. Working with the social services, for example, they provide care in the community for elderly people.
