ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN AEROPLANE MAINTENANCE


The duration of this programme is 6 semesters (3 years) and will cover all aspects of aeroplane systems and structures, its operation and maintenance. The syllabus encompasses the fundamentals of aircraft system and structures comprising aircraft structures, systems, theory of flight inclusive of both the airframe and powerplant. On completion of the programme the graduates shall be granted Diploma of Engineering Technology in Aeroplane Maintenance.

This comprehensive training will prepare the graduate to be readily absorbed by the aviation industries such as airlines, maintenance and repair organization, aircraft vendors, and also avionics repair stations or workshops. With the growth in aviation industry locally and world wide, this training will provide greater employment opportunity for the graduates.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN AVIONICS MAINTENANCE


This programme will be taught in 6 semesters (3 years) which will cover all aspects of avionic systems, its operation and maintenance. The syllabus encompasses the fundamentals of electrical and electronic systems which also includes electronics instrumentation, aircraft electrical systems and the maintenance of the aircraft electrical and instrument systems.

On completion of the programme, the graduates will be awarded Diploma of Engineering Technology in Avionics Maintenance. This programme will be taught in 6 semesters (3 years) which will cover all aspects of helicopter systems, its operation and maintenance. INDUSTRIAL LOGISTICS


Logistics management is one of the foundation blocks of any successful business. With the onslaught of globalization, logistics management has become more complex and face stiff challenges. It entails a wide variety of activities as global enterprizes need to integrate the flow of goods from the suppliers, through their facilities, on to their customers. Proper performance of logistics functions can thus contribute to both lower costs and enhanced customer service. Unless an organization can manage and coordinate the movement of materials, information and cash through its business, and those of partner organizations, it is unlikely to outperform its competitors. With Malaysia’s strategic development in the logistics sector, such as, business expansion in air cargo hub, container port, as well as in service industries like airlines, couriers and banks, the market demand for logistics professionals is tremendous.

Typical problems in this area will include supply chain design (materials handling, facility location, plant layout, integrated production systems, warehousing, pricing, service support), supply chain operations (inventory control, third-part logistics, transportation and freight operations, air cargo systems, routing, network optimization, distribution channels) and tactical issues (item tracking). MEDICAL IMAGING (RADIOGRAPHY)


A Diagnostic Radiographer is defined as a professional from the Allied Health Science Group trained in the use of X-rays and other sophisicated diagnostic imaging systems, such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), computerised tomography (CT), mammography, radionuclide imaging, angiography and digital radiography for the purpose of producing diognastic quality medical images to enable the Radiologist (a specialist doctor in Radiology) to diagnose diseases and abnormalities of the human body. The art and science of Diognostic Radiography requires the acquisition of knowledge and skills in the following specific areas ; anatomy and physiology; medical ethics; medical terminology; pathology; patient management; behavorial science; accurate patient positioning; the principal of X-ray exposures; quality assurance of medical imaging instruments; general physics; radiation physics and radiation protection; radiobiology; pattern recognition of normal and abnormal medical images; and photchemistry.

The Diagnostic Radiographer is an essential member of the healthcare community. Good teamwork with the other healthcare providers expedite medical treatment of patients, and thus fasten their recovery towards good health. The students will spend 3 years full time studying with clinical practice at several government and private hospitals. The training programme is committed to graduating students wit a holistic experience in the art and science of medical imaging. It is designed to produced graduates who are technicall proficient and knowledgeable practioners, who take pride in providing exemplary patient care.

NURSING


This course introduces the student to nursing as a professional discipline. It provides the student with knowledge and skills for an exciting career in a variety of nursing roles in various health care institutions. Students spend 3 years full time studying with practical experience in various disciplines at several government hospitals and health clinics in Perak. During this period they will be equipped with relevant exposure and experience for an exciting career in a variety of nursing roles and health care settings. Students in this programme are thaught at UniKL RCMP in Ipoh. Besides that they are also exposed to the clinical teaching and attachments in the Ipoh Hospital and in Teluk Intan Hospital. In addition, they are also attached to many clinics and health centres in the District of Hilir Perak.

UniKL RCMP students are also encourage to be involved in organised field work e.g. at the Orang Asli Settlement. With these structures and organised approaches in the teaching of the nursing students, they will be more prepared to offer health care services to the community. Upon successful completion of the programme, a Diploma will be awarded by the University which is recognized by the Nursing Board of Malaysia. This course of study has attained the official recognition and the academic qualification being conferred is in compliance with the standard and quality set by MQA.

PHARMACY


This course aims to provide the student with an appreciation of the role of a pharmacy assistant working in a community pharmacy environment. Futhermore, the course provides an introduction to knowledge and skills to provide a high quality clinical pharmacy service, as well as enabling students to develop skills in providing pharmaceutical care to serve the nation. Constant expansion of health care programmes and increasing need for quality pharmaceutical care ensure a continuing demand of well educated pharmacy assistants in the country.

The student will spend 3 years full time studying with practical experience at several government and private hospitals. The curriculum is designed to meet the requirements of the health sector. A key element of the course is the hospital based practical activities (during health semester 4 & 5) which provides the opportunity for students to put theory into practice. Upon successful completion of the programme, a Diploma will be awarded by the University.

PHYSIOTHERAPY


Physiotherapists help people of all ages who have physical problems caused by illness, accident or ageing. Physiotherapy techniques can improve the ability to use parts of the body that have been affected by disease or injury. For example, arthritis is a long-term condition that causes painful and stiff joints. Physiotherapy can help to keep the joints mobile (able to move) and strengthen the surrounding muscles. Physiotherapists may work in hospitals, private practices or with the social services. Working with the social services, for example, they provide care in the community for elderly people.

MEDICAL ASSISTANT

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY IN MARINE ENGINEERING


There are about 22,000 engineering professionals and semi-professional currently employed in marine and other related industries in Malaysia. This figure allows for a pessimistic growth of 8% to 10% inclusive of vacancies created due to workforce retirement and migration to other industries in every five years. A total of more than 2,000 professionals and semi-professionals are to be produced to meet the demand of the marine and the related industries in Malaysia. However the actual demand in the five year period is expected to be much more taking into account those intending to become individual technical entrepreneurs seeking employment overseas.

The objectives of the programme are:

  • To produce semi-professionals, competent in the field of marine engineering technology to meet the current and future demand of the marine and its related industries in Malaysia as well as abroad.
  • To train and develop technical entrepreneurs in the various sectors of the marine industry.

ANIMATION


This programme is designed to equip students with skills in animation. Digital Animation is widely applied in production of films, videos, advertising architectural visualization, and special effects and in the creation of educational material. Thus, graduates of this programme have a wide range of options in terms of industries to choose from to start off their careers. Students learn both theoretical and fundamentals of drawing and computer technology used in animation. The aesthetical and creative elemets of animation are covered through traditional animation techniques and computer technologies. Storyboarding skills, scripting for animation, timing, layout design are incorporated into the programme. Two major projects will test the students’ competence in animation skills and techniques.

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (BIOPROCESS)


Many positions are currently going unfilled nationwide because the industry cannot find enough technicians to fill their job openings. Opportunities for advancement in the field of biotechnology are excellent for those who keep abreast with the rapid changes occurring in this field. Employees who are curious, investigate and adaptable in their attitudes quickly become more valuable and earn higher salaries, while those who content to ride on their education may soon find that their skills and knowledge are out of date and out of demand.

Bioprocess/Biosystem technicians sometimes advance to supervisory of management positions if they show themselves to be highly effective, organized and skilled in supervisory task as well. They may join various industries like cereal manufacturing, bakery products, sugar refinery, manufacturing of flour-based sweetening agent, chocolate and confectionary products, fish processing, milk and dairy products, fruits and vegetable products, canning industry, edible oils and its products and beverages. The scope of career may vary from production supervisors, quality assurance supervisors, technicians, assistant chemist, R&D assistants, operators and others.

CHEMICAL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY (POLYMER)


Polymer technology can be described in brief as the manufacture, processing, analysis and application of long chain molecules. Materials that are typically classified as polymers include: plastics, paints, rubber, foams, adhesives, sealants, varnishes etc. Our daily life today is fully controlled by these materials that it is impossible to imagine life as we know it without these products. Industries that are totally dependent on polymers include information technology, aerospace, music, clothing, medical, motor manufacturing, building, packaging and many more.

The objective of the programme at UniKL MICET is to provide students with training in polymer technology at a semi-professional level. The programme covers the principles and operating of machines, characterization, instrumentation, fabrication processes and the compounding of polymeric materials. The course prepare students for a career in the polymer and related industries or, if already employed in the industry, to improve their effectiveness and career prospects; the course focuses on full integration of the theory and practice of polymer engineering; it develops experience and understanding of the practical aspects of polymer engineering essential for those with technological careers.
